Instant dismissal yourself is only allowed if your employer commits serious misconduct and you cannot reasonably be expected to continue working. These are exceptional situations, such as:

  • structural failure to pay wages;
  • serious threat, assault or harassment by the employer;
  • deliberately creating an unsafe work situation;
  • coercing illegal acts.

As with summary dismissal by the employer, strict requirements also apply to you. The reason must be urgent, you must act immediately and you must communicate the reason immediately and clearly to your employer.

If you take your own immediate dismissal without meeting these conditions, you run the risk that the UWV will classify you as culpably unemployed. In that case, you are usually not entitled to WW benefits.
